MBA Online

I want to get my MBA online but don't know much about these online universities/courses.

Duke University has an online MBA as does UMass and Florida State. Your options are many and extend way beyond the UoP type schools. I'd say that the best online MBA I know of right now is the one at Duke but that's a subjective opinion. Other good choices include the likes of Az State, U Colorado, Embry-Riddle, U Florida, Indiana, James Madison, U Maryland, U Michigan, U Nebraska, U Texas, U Wyoming, and the U. of YourState probably teaches online... it goes on and on. In fact, the MBA is one degree that gives you the most choices online. Make certain that your choice is regionally accredited and if you can get into an AACSB program, that will be extremely beneficial. Don't expect it to be either easy or inexpensive - it will be neither. Understand that when you say "online degree" many people immediately think of UoP and their kin -- they just don't understand the magnitude of distance delivery these days. Even Harvard and Oxford are teaching online now.

I'm looking to pursue a MBA with an emphasis in Information Security, and have a BS in Computer Science from 2003. With my busy lifestyle, would obtaining a MBA online be a bit more academically "challenging"? Would it be asinine?

I really want to hear from people who have experience hiring. If you had to choose between two applicants who are 100% equally qualified and have all the same experience and personality traits to bring to the position but have just one difference--one earned their MBA online and the other in person--which would you choose? Assume that the online MBA was earned from a highly reputable online program and the MBA earned in person was earned from a typical public university program. Please explain your answer.

The person with actual classroom attendance would be preferred by far. As a former job recruiter, I can say that we would never hire anyone with any online degree. We also would never hire anyone from any for-profit school. I still have friends in the business who say that those schools mean an automatic rejection. Some of those with the worst reputations include Kaplan, University of Phoenix, Everest, Brown-Mackie, Full Sail, Capella, DeVry, and Penn Foster. See RipOffReport.com for reviews. There have been widespread reports of students hiring impostors to take online courses for them. That means that any online program is considered questionable. Some legit brick and mortar colleges offer blended courses which allow some of the studies to be done online. Classroom attendance is still required for tests or any lab work. During tests, a photo I.D. is required for entry to the classroom. That helps prevent cheating by online impostors. Those type of classes are far more likely to be accepted in the job market than any online-only programs.

My cousin, due to his work travels a lot and would like to finish a MBA online due to his heavy schedule. Preferably a Canadian University thanks :) sorry, not an MBA, a master's degree
